Session Summary

Synopsis

Following a rest period filled with existential dread and preparation—including Egon’s "Protection from Poison"—the party is ambushed by a pack of five Displacer Beasts. A chaotic skirmish ensues, involving a wild magic surge of exploding flumphs and a distinct smell of ammonia. After a grueling fight involving severe injuries to Balmaris and Nail, the predators are dispatched, and the party locates an elevator.

Philosophical Dawning and Pungent Aromas

The party stirred from their rest, though the atmosphere remained heavy. While Durmen prepared the group with Darkvision, Aldran spent the morning in deep contemplation regarding his umbilical connection to his ancestors. Notably, Egon cast Protection from Poison on the party, still wary of the previous night's toxins.

• The Scent: The air shifted from ozone to the stench of predator urine, described by the party as a "dolphin orgy."

The Skirmish: The Displacer Pack

Contrary to initial reports, a total of five Displacer Beasts emerged from the shadows to hunt the party. The ensuing battle was a comedy of errors and high-stakes magic.

• The Opening Salvo: Durmen used Ice Knife and Burning Hands to reveal the beasts, though the party struggled with the creatures' displacement illusions.
• Brutal Injuries: The beasts proved lethal; one landed a jagged strike on Balmaris, mangling his arm and leaving him fighting through immense pain. Simultaneously, Nail suffered a catastrophic fumble, falling prone and entering a state of shock that left him stunned and weaponless while the monsters circled.
• The Kill Count:
  • Aldran was the primary executioner, using his Rage and Savage Attacker prowess to take down two of the beasts.
  • Durmen secured two kills: one with a Spiritual Hammer and the final beast with a massive 5th-level Magic Missile.
  • Balmaris accounted for the fifth, vaporizing it with a high-level Inflict Wounds.
• Retribution: Aldran’s Wild Magic lashed out with force whenever he was struck, and he eventually summoned an exploding Flumph that pinned the predators. The tide turned when one beast fumbled its own attack, incapacitating itself in a display of "classless" clumsiness.

The Elevator and the Moon

The party moved through another empty room, eventually finding an elevator leading deeper into the facility.

Before leaving the scene, Egon opted for a final act of defiance by mooning the fallen predators. With the "Bad Kitties" behind them, the party prepared to enter the lift.
