Session Summary

Synopsis

Session 146: Jurassic Distraction. Eschewing the elevator to explore the main level, the party is suddenly swarmed by a massive pack of Vegepygmy Warriors. The battle turns into a desperate retreat toward the Reactor Room as resources dwindle to critical levels. After Aldran suffers a catastrophic self-injury and Durmen is nearly beaten to death by the plant-kin, Egon manages to stabilize the wizard just as the survivors barricade themselves behind a wedged door, leaving the fate of Nail and Balmaris unknown.

The Main Level Ambush

While investigating the metallic corridors of the main floor, the party was swarmed by **Vegepygmy Warriors**. The fight was characterized by narrow escapes and high-level magic used in desperation.

• Arcane Mastery: Durmen was the tactical MVP of the retreat. He unleashed multiple high-level Ice Knives (up to 4th level) and a critical Fire Bolt that dealt 24 damage. To buy the party breathing room, he manifested a Silent Image of a gargantuan, plant-eating dinosaur. The illusion successfully terrified the vegepygmies, stalling their advance as the "beast" began "munching" through the hallway.
• The Spore Guardian: Egon activated his Symbiotic Entity, using his Halo of Spores to punish any creature that drew near. He held the line with a quarterstaff, at one point using a 2nd-level Healing Word to keep the party standing.
• The High Cost: The defense was expensive; the party burned through multiple high-level spell slots just to keep the horde at bay while moving south toward safety.

The Critical Disaster

The retreat turned into a near-wipe as the party reached the vicinity of Room 13.

• Aldran’s Fumble: At a pivotal moment, Aldran suffered a catastrophic critical failure (Roll: 116 on the fumble table). He struck himself for 15 damage and was rendered Unconscious for the remainder of the engagement.
• Durmen’s Last Stand: The plant-kin eventually overwhelmed the Wizard. Durmen took a brutal series of spear strikes and poison damage, falling unconscious and failing two death saves before being stabilized by Egon.
• "He's My Meat Sack!": Upon regaining consciousness, a Raging Aldran grabbed Durmen’s "meat sack" and hauled him toward the safety of the room while shouting defiance at the mold-kin.
• The Door Slam: As they breached the room, Egon slammed the heavy door shut with such force it sliced a pursuing Vegepygmy clean in half.

Barricaded and Divided

The reprieve was short-lived as the creatures began forced entry. In a final act of desperation:

• Durmen used his remaining strength to immolate the last Vegepygmy that breached the room.
• The door was wedged shut using a sacrificial dagger (Durmen's) jammed into the frame.

The survivors now find themselves hiding in the depths of the Reactor Room (Room 13), nursing grievous wounds and the realization that Nail and Balmaris were lost in the chaos.
